Though a similar sport was first played in France in 1978, Powerchair Soccer was introduced to North America through its independent invention in the province of British Columbia in 1979. First called “motor soccer” the game followed the rules of soccer with the strategies of rugby on a standard sized basketball court. From once humble beginnings, the sport quickly spread to the US and has since exploded into an international sensation with its own governing body, objectives, rules and classifications. In October 2011, when Powerchair Soccer Canada sent our very first Team Canada to the FIFPA World Cup it featured eight top players from British Columbia. British Columbia has remained a top player on the North American Powerchair Soccer stage ever since.

With 4 programs in Vancouver, Kelowna, Nanaimo and Maple Ridge, as well as past programs in Surrey and Chilliwack, the state of Powerchair Soccer in B.C. is constantly growing and evolving.
